Tessellation project
Mr.Maksymchuk will be leaving us all of next week but will be available monday and tuesday on the breaks. He is giving us a project that we will not get his help for, but hopefully we won't need it. On top of that we still need to do our accelerated math. 60 objectives due for June 22nd and the circle and polygon investigations booklet is due tomorrow, June 5th.
TESSELATION: The result of tiling a 2-d plain with shapes. Beware that not all shapes tesselate a plain.

15 days left of school!
Today Mr Maksymchuk told us that we have till the end of the week to finish up our circle papers. The first 8 questions were due for yesterday if we wanted marks. If we did not get them completed our marks went down. Today is just a work period, we get to work on the circle papers or we work on Accelerated Math, which is due by the end of the next week.

Circle Theorems 6 and 7
Today we went over the last two circle theorems. We have been doing this all week and the rest of them are saved in the courswork drive.
Circle Theorem #6:
If a quadrilateral is cyclic, then the opposite angles are supplementary
*Meaning that the angles that are opposite each other always add up to 180 degrees.
Cirle Theorem #7:
If two lines are tangent to the same circle, and intersect in the exterior of the circle, then the line segments created by the point and points of tangency are congruent.
* So pretty much the lines are the same.
We then continued to do practice questions.

Circle Theorems
We took a review on circle theorems(picture on the left), and I learnt that..if the arc's in a circle are the same, then the angle is the same. I thought this would be quite useful for you as well. We went on EUKLID and constructed circles.

Circle Geometry
First we started off with opening EUKLID DynaGeo. It is a good tool to use for circle geometry. Mr. Max started the lesson on Circle Geometry by asking us the most basic question... What is a Circle? a circle is a set of points in a 2D plane, such that all points are EQUIDISTANT from a centre point. We have to use the "Internet" to find the definitions to these circle words.
-Radius
-Diameter
-Circumference
-Chord
-Secant
-Tangent
-Minor/Major Arc
-Arc
-Segmant
-Sector
-Intercepted Arc
-Intercepted Angle
-Angle
-Central Angle
-Inscribed Angle
-Quadrilateral
-Cyclic Quadrilateral
...and we have to find what they are on a Diagram that Mr. Max created.

Today is our last chance to finish our Simple/Compound Interest Questions. We can also work on accelerated math. 41 objectives due by today.
Yesterdays Blog.
Dear Everyone who reads the blog,
Sadly, yesterday I forgot to put up my post, which would be why I am here again today! Yesterday we had a sub (not the sandwich) because Mr. Max had some business to take care of, or else he was sick, Either way he wasn't here. So, we had Mr. Richer for a substitute. He was very lovely, barely knew he was there, apparently he has a staring problem but thats okay! During this period we had lots of work to catch up on and stuff to do. Hopefully everyone did all their work, I'm sure we all did because we're such wonderful children.. And thats about all I have to say about yesterday..today. TGIF. Have a lovely day today, and I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday too! :)

Wonder how to..
Today is Wednesday, May 20th. Today is a day 2. Today is a work period. Today, there are 9 people in class, 10 if you count Mr.Maksymchuk. Since we will not learn anything new today, I will introduce you to my new favorite website..... **do do do doo doo doo doooooooooo** (tadaaa music)
Have you ever wondered how to... crack a master lock? lock pick hand cuffs? Fake a memory clear on your TI? Unclock a door with a credit card?!? I BET YOU HAVE!!! **applause**
Even if you haven't... This website is still cool!!!
www.wonderhowto.com
Wonderhowto is the best way to find out how to do most things your mother wouldn't teach you!
Check it out. Be responsible. Use it for entertainment purposes only. Don't be dumb and steal stuff. Or cheat. Or whatever.

Rachels Challenge
Today we had the choice to either work on our budgets and ivestments assignment or math objectives. Just a reminder, 41 objectives are due on friday! If you happen to miss the presentation yesterday, you can go on the website to see what you missed. In my opinion I thought the presentation was emotional to everyone, it was a great experience. One of the best speakers to the school yet. Here is a link to the website.

Very Eventful Mental Math/Work Period
Hello!
So, today in Mr. Max's Wonderful World of Mathematics, we had a very interesting Mental Math. We learned that a square has always, and will always be a rectangle. We also learned, that there is a possibility Mr. Max can stump us all with the first question because... we all got it wrong! Anyways, today was a work period and it's crash time for Accelerated Math objectives, 33 by the end of today. Good luck everyone!!

Lock down and Work period
Today, lock down was initiaded during second block. The few kids that came to class were all buzzing about the lock down so Mr.Maks thought it would be a good idea to discuss it. He told us that the lock down today was real. There was a potentially dangerous and armed man at the appartment buildings across from the school so the police made the decision to tell the school to go into lock down. The conclusion of the lock down went well; everyone was quiet and the situation was controlled.
There was only nine kids in class today because some were gone for the Skills competition and some were gone to take their drivers ed test, some were just absent. Because of the absentees our test was pushed back to wednesday. Yay! After we finished talking about the lock down we just had a work period to catch up on accelerated math and whatever else we were working on. Just a reminder there are 35 objectives do on April 23rd.

Work Period/Serious Lockdown Discussion
So today i was sitting in english with Bredin and there was a lockdown. I thought it was fake but it wasn't! The police came and said there was a crazy man that was dangerous at the appartments across from the school. So we sat there for about twenty five mintues until it was over. I don't like lockdowns. So now we have a work period. For math i mean. Peace!

Work Period!
Today we started the day off like usual with mental math. It took a little longer today because lots of us didn't understand question 5. It involved interecting a cone perpendicularly with a plane and Mr. Maksymchuk was asking us what shape would the intersecting be. Which in the end we found out the answer was a circle. After mental math was over we were able to work on either Accelerated Math or work on Excercise 1, 2, and 3 which are due A.S.A.P. Also our goal for 35 objective in mental math is due for April 23rd.

New Trick on Excel, March, 16/09
Today we did mental math and then Mr. Max wanted to show us a new way of solving problems on Microsoft Excel. We had a problem trying to solve how big a woman's garden could be given the size of her fence. Go to excel and type in the formula for length x width. After that put that number in another column (vertically or horazontally) and then highlight them with your mouse. There should be a black dot in the bottom right hand corner of your highlighted boxes, click and drag the length down as far as you would like, and do the same for the width. Then scroll down and find the biggest area number and that will give you the answer.

Quadratic Functions
Today we did mental math and then got a little booklet on quadratic functions. we have to do questions 1-8. you may usethe internet, graphmatica, and excel if you like. If you don't know what some of the words are you can use: www.mathwords.com. The rest of the class was used to work on questions and accelerated math. Mr.maksymchuk canceled all the word problem exercises and printed out some new ones. We are expected to have thirty some objectives by spring break. That's all for this class.

finding the missile that was lost in the desert.
As usual on a Friday morning we did mental math. Then, Mr. Max read us a story and reminded us how we are very fortunate to be in a safe school. I personally thought that it was a good story.. We had questions yesterday on finding the missile that was lost in the desert, and they were due for homework today, so Mr.Max did the questions with us. Here they are:

Test
Sorry for the late post.
On March 3rd we wrote our first test of the semester. It was on linear equations and word problems. After the test we worked on accelerated math and had time to catch up on objectives.
I assume that in the near future Mr. Max will be turning off the word problem objectives so get them done.

Test Review for Linear Systems of Equations
At the start of class our class did mental math. Today's mental math was number 14. We, as a class, were then explained the rules, regulations and privileges for the test on Tuesday, March 3rd. The rules, regulations and privileges for the test are as follows:
- We will have the privilege to use Graphmatica but NOT the Internet.
- The test will start at the beginning of class and will end exactly at 12:10, NO LATER.
- If you are found using anything else on the laptops besides Graphmatica(ex. Internet, Blog, etc..) you will have an automatic fail and a possible expulsion from the course.
- You will be allowed to bring an 8x11 piece of paper with whatever you want on it.
- The classroom rules still apply as they would any other day.
- There will be no cheating off of other students.
- There will be NO mp3, iPOD, mp4 or other portable audio/visual information devices allowed at the test.
- You may also use your graphing/scientific calculator if you wish.
Those are the rules, regulations and privileges for the test on Tuesday, March 3rd.
For the rest of the class, we were shown and explained the material for the test which is as follows:

"Big Brother is watching you.... :)"
Mr. Maxs is trying out a new software in which he spys on us to see what we are doing on our computer. He pretty much has control over what we do. Personally, I don't really like it but ohh well. I guess in one way it has a benefit we can see his monitor on our screen which is cool.

Work Period
Today in Applied math we started off with Mental Math. Mr. Max went around the class showing people how to solve word problems from Accelerated Math. Today's class is going to be a work period, we can ask Mr. Max any questions we have and work on our Accelerated Math which we need 15 mastered Objectives by Friday's class. There are no slides to post today either. There wil also be a test coming up on Tuesday March 3 2008.

Work Period
Today in class we went over how to do our blog properly, and Mr.Maksymchuk went around and checked all of our joke sheets. Today we also handed in our first sheet of mental math and we got to cross two days that we didn't get a good mark on, and our marks were entered into edline. Mr.Maksymchuk assigned a test for next Tuesday on all the stuff we did in the past two weeks. I am working on my accelerated math today because on Friday, 15 objectives are due.

Linear Systems Word Problems
Hello there, apparently today is my day to scribe, so I guess I'm going to tell you where to find the directions for the word problems unit.
1. Go to the start menu and click on my computer.
2. Click on the J: drive and go to the coursework folder.
3. Then click on the math folder and find our 0809 2nd semester 11 applied folder.
4. In this folder there should be a separate folder called word problems, click on it.
Inside of this folder there is directions for objectives 11-15.
To find objective 11, I would look at the examples in the Adobe folder called 'systems word problems 3', and the 'systems word problems intro' folder.
To find objective 12, I would most likely look in the folder called 'word problems motion and distance mixture.'
To find objective 13, I'd look in the folder called 'age systems word problems.'
For objective 14, I think i'd look in the 'word problems' coin ages folder.
And lastly, for objective 15, I would suggest you look in any of the folders with the word mixture in them, because that's what i'm doing.
I know these aren't the greatest directions as to what exactly your supposed to do, but everybody learns different, so maybe the best way is to find your own way to learn about word problems if these directions don't work for you. Hope this made your day better, Thanks for reading!!

Linear Systems
Today we learned the Types of Linear Systems. We learned the types, their appearences and how many solutions there are to each one. As of today, Monday is the day the joke sheets (None word problems) are going to be due. Mr. Maksymchuck has also said there will be a test coming in the near future.

Today in class we were not given any instruction or any new concepts to learn. We were given time to work on our accelerated math, and or the joke sheets that were homework if you did not have them done. Since we did not get any instruction today i will not be posting any pictures or recording so the advice i can give you is to try, and to try to do homework because it seems to be coming fast.

Solving word problems involving linear system of equations
On tuesday we started off applied class with mental math. We then had a homework check where a few people were having troubles with, he then helped us with a few questions from page 164. Midway through class we started on solving word problems involving linear system of equations. Below is a few diagrams of what we did today.Remember everyone to do your homework.

Measuring Points on A Triangle using Euklid
To measure points on A triangle first you must create a triangle by clicking on draw or construct at the top of the screen. After you have selected and draw your triangle to the size of your choice you can now measure. To measure simply click on measure distance. Click on your first point you want to measure from and name it, and then move on to your next point after clicking ok to the second point the distance should appear. Repeat this step for the other points. Below is a example.

Substition Method
So mr.maksymchuk spent a few minutes explaining to us that math is fake. It is something that we learn to build neurons and pathways in our brains or something so that we can solve problems when we're older. That's what i thought he was saying even if nobody really understood what he meant. He gave us an example saying that we will never have to find the slope of a purple line but we will wait in line to mexico and that's what learning about math is good for. I don't know, i didn't get it but anyways. After that, he taught us the steps of the substition method.
